Glossop Judo Club was founded in February 2005 by Steve Phillips and Geoff Ham on a completely voluntary basis.
Because of this, in 2005 Geoff and Steve were awarded Volunteers of the Year by the British Judo Association for their dedication in promoting Judo in the Glossop area.
2006 brought further awards - High Peak Sports Club of the Year and Derbyshire Sports Club of the Year Runners up, along with the Sport England Clubmark Bronze Award.
![]() 2007 continued where 2006 left off with the club again winning High Peak Sports Club of the Year and again being Runners up at the Derbyshire awards. Eric Ham became High Peak Junior Sportsman of the year whilst Steve was awarded High Peak Performance Coach of the Year.
2008 was the High Peak Sports Club of the Year hat-trick!!
In 2009 two of our members were presented with awards. Eric Ham was presented with a Derbyshire Young Achiever Award and Ryan Phillips was presented with a Derbyshire School Sports Association award for Sporting Achievement. Both awards further promote the club, not only in the High Peak but County wide.
In 2010 Glossop had its first home grown British Champion. Eric Ham won the 2010 British Championships as well as again winning the High Peak Junior Sportsman of the Year. Since opening, players from the club have won eight British Championship medals - 3 Gold, 4 Silver & 2 Bronze Medals, four players have also been selected for the England Squad (Pre-Cadet and Cadet).
