WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Safety is paramount in Judo. The first lesson that you attend you will be shown how to land properly without getting hurt (Breakfalls). You will also learn a couple of basic throws and hold-downs.
You will also be taught some of the important Japanese terminology that you will hear your instructors using from time to time. For your first lesson you will need to wear tracksuit bottoms. The club does have a small number of suits they will lend to beginners initially, subject to availability Please do not wear vests or shorts. Acceptable clothing for beginners would be old tracksuit bottoms or loose trousers (with no zips or buckles). We would recommend you let your child trial a few sessions before buying a suit or taking out membership, when ready to purchase a suit, this can be done online or at any session After your first lesson you will be taught more fighting techniques and skills from week to week. Within a few weeks beginners will also learn the basics of throws and grappling techniques. Judo is great recreational fun, but our first priority is SAFETY. |
