An impressive performance by young judo star Jaime-Leigh Whitaker saw her return from The Netherlands with a Gold Medal round her neck. On her very first trip abroad she fought up a weight group and won all of her fights to win this prestigious International event. In her section were girls from The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the Czech Repuiblic. This truly International event sees fighters from all over Europe descend on Venray making it one of the toughest events on the International Judo calender. Next year we hope to take over a couple more players to the event. Eric Ham did travel over to the event but was unable to compete due to his broken wrist.

Glossop Judo Club
fighter Eric Ham travelled over to Duisburg, Germany for the 13th Sparda International Cup for Young Men Under
15 Years. This is Germany's premier international
competition of the year for boys under 15 years of age and is a German national
squad selection event. There were over three hundred participants from 152 judo
clubs from Belgium, England, Holland, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Slovenia
and the host country Germany. There were also seventeen German regional squads
present. The matches were four minutes long and both arm-locks and strangles
were allowed. British Champion, Eric fought well against some of Europes best fighters
winning four tough fights before losing out in the final. A creditable silver medal in this event was
added to the Gold Medal he won in 2010. Next weekend Eric will travel to Lyon for the
tough Mions International.

Around 50 young children from Glossop, SKK and Wirral Judo clubs took part in our first mini-mon event of the year. A great day was had by all and there were some great performances from many of the players. We will be holding another event in a couple of months. Many thanks to all the parents who helped with the setting out and the catering on the day. |

Glossop Judo Club sent four
fighters over to Walsall for the 2010 Midland under 20 age banded competition.
Three of the clubs younger crop of fighters, Lucy Hancer, Jamie Hallows and
Jaime-Leigh Whitaker fought in the under 12 section whilst current British
Champion Eric Ham fought in the Under 15’s.
As the first of a series of four ranking events to select the 2012 England
Judo Squad all the countries best talent were in attendance and any medal in an
event like this one is a great achievement.
First up were Lucy Hancer and Jamie Hallows. Both fighters fought well and will learn from
the experience but came home without a win.
Plucky little Jaime-Leigh Whitaker had to fight up a weight group as there
was no group for her size and after a slow fist fight she won her last two
fights in style to win a Silver Medal. Eric
Ham continued his domination in the under 15 age group winning all his fights
to add another gold medal to his collection.

Held every year the event is well run and attracts many of the countries finest competitors. Eric was part of a three man lightweight team along with Connor Potts (Goole) and Ashton Whalley (Beach). All three are England squad players and dominated the event from the very start winning all seven matches beating a very strong Pinewood team in the final. |
